Wildflower Meadow
A little work, for a huge environmental impact
Our First Mini-Meadow

After researching the benefit of letting areas grow wild, I removed the sod from either side of the front walkway. I purchased seed from American Meadows and with minimal watering, I was amazed at the variety of flowers and length of bloom time. There were so many bees and butterflies just in this little, space it was amazing!

The 2nd Year
What is better than a good thing? More of a good thing, of course, so we had to double the front wildflower section! After removing the sod, we went over it with the tiller, then ordered twice as much seed from American Meadows. We overseeded the previous areas also, but there we a lot of perennials, and plants that re-seeded themselves! It was phenomenal-so many butterflies, and as it neared fall, there were even Goldfinches!
This year it was my dream to finally start putting the back meadow into wildflowers. I actually built a small observation deck out of reclaimed wood last year, anticipating bird and insect watching, and all of the amazing sketchbook inspiration! Kevin undertook most of the tilling, and we have just started putting the seed down this week!
